AIS loves Noonswoon: Thai telco to matchmake app on 3G networks
Love is in the air for AIS and Noonswoon. The Thai telecom company is going to feature the matchmaking app on their very own AIS 3G networks
Noonswoon, the much-watched Thai-based matchmaking iOS app, today announced that its product will be featured on the AIS shelf. This came as a no brainer since the company was awarded the winner of the telco’s AIS the StartUp Weekends 2013 bootcamp recently.
AIS, a Thai telecom conglomerate, has also taken the opportunity to announce that Noonswoon is the first startup partner to be promoted to an Incubated Content Partner (ICP).
It is a valuable opportunity for the matchmaking app which has recently received funds from Golden Gate Ventures and additional investors, as it would mean an additional source of exposure in the Thai smartphone market. AIS 3G customers could find out more about the app through the AIS shelf.
Why not pre-install the app onto AIS iPhones with the 3G network? An unnamed AIS spokesperson told e27 that it might upset their customers as most of them wouldn’t want their phones to be tampered with.
She also said that AIS has never tried pre-installing any app onto phones. She explained, “We don’t do pre-installation because this machine is a bit hard-sale, forcing customers too much.”
Pratthana Leelapanang, Senior Vice President of Digital Product and Service, AIS, said in the press release that the telco will be looking at creating more business opportunities for the startup group and propel them towards “sustainable and mutual growth”.
The spokesperson also added that the partnership could also come in the form of marketing campaigns. While both AIS and Noonswoon will use a revenue-share model once the initiative takes off, Prammanee said that no money has changed hands for this project.
Noonswoon’s current revenue model sees consumers using in-app purchases to connect more effectively with potential dates.
She also noted that AIS is looking forward to partner both local and international businesses, if those companies have a Thai presence.
We have reached out to Noonswoon for comments. Keep watching this space.
