Startup Salary – how much money do you make?
There is a general acknowledgement that in a rather risk averse society working for PTT, or any other large company for that matter, is better than working for some scrappy Startup that might not exist the very next day. The risk to failing seems to be difficult to cope with and parents are often supporting their kids doing whatever they want as long as they are studying. Afterwards though, please have at least a plan B or go directly to SCG, PTT or work for some reputable university. Yes you might have the worst, most frustrating job in the world, but at least you will be able to have a good, and secure corporate career.
While there is certainly some merit in working for one of the large international conglomerates or Thai companies (even if it is only for you to find out that you don’t want to work for the rest of your life) founders would rather like to see top talent join Startups. It is difficult for a Startup to argue with branding though, and apparently giving shares to prospective employees is something that does not work too well in Thailand either. It boils down to the monthly salary – monthly because it seems that there is often very little employer loyalty as well.
So what is the monthly salary, say of an junior engineer at a Startup? How much do you pay a senior designer or to an experienced Business Developer? Often founders don’t know, and in absence of a benchmark one has to turn to the annual Adecco Salary Guide. While this is certainly interesting, it would probably be even more interesting to see what is really going on. How many earn founders themselves and how many are actually still bootstrapping?
Well let’s find out! Below is a short survey. It’s anonymous and we hope that General Pisit is not interested in it. The survey shouldn’t take more than 3 minutes to fill out. Obviously, the more data you provide the better the results will be. Of course, not everybody wants to disclose this information. I totally understand that, but the benefit for you is that the results will be publicized and you can actually benchmark against other Startups – and multinationals. Furthermore, with data available “competitive salary” can actually be filled with a number.
